Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Director of Accounting & Finance (CPA) to lead financial operations for a growing multi-location behavioral health organization. This role is responsible for GAAP financial reporting, tax compliance, financial strategy, and accounting leadership , while supporting company growth initiatives including multi-state expansion and mergers & acquisitions (M&A) . The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in corporate taxation, financial operations, audit management, and healthcare finance . Qualifications Candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and taxation. Candidate must have an active CPA license. Candidate must hold a master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Proven knowledge and hands?on experience in federal and multi?state tax compliance, planning, and related reporting. Direct involvement in mergers, acquisitions, or other strategic financial transactions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to present complex financial information clearly to executives, boards, and external partners. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast?paced environment. Preferred Experience • Experience in healthcare finance, behavioral health organizations, or multi-location healthcare operations • Experience working with ERP accounting systems (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar) • Demonstrated leadership managing accounting or finance teams • Experience supporting corporate growth, acquisitions, or financial restructuring Key responsibilities Oversee corporate tax compliance , including federal, state, and multi-state tax filings , ensuring alignment with IRS regulations and SALT requirements .Oversee end-to-end accounting, GAAP reporting, audit coordination, and process improvements to ensure accurate and efficient financial operations. Interpret and apply IRS codes, tax laws, and regulatory updates to optimize tax positions and minimize risk. Prepare and analyze GAAP-compliant financial statements , including profit and loss (P&L), balance sheets, and cash flow statements . . Develop and oversee tax provisions, credits, incentives, and research on legislative or IRS guidance changes. Work closely with external tax advisors on complex issues, notices, IRS inquiries, or audits; escalate and resolve tax risks. Support mergers and acquisitions (M&A) by conducting financial due diligence, valuation analysis, and post-merger integration planning to ensure financial stability and regulatory compliance.Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and tax efficiency. Coordinate with external auditors, legal advisors, and regulatory authorities as required. Lead financial planning and analysis (FP&A) , including budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance reporting. Provide strategic financial leadership to executives, supporting data-driven decision-making and long-term growth planning. Provide strategic tax, audit, and regulatory guidance to support multi-state expansion, including analysis of state and local tax (SALT) implications, IRS codes, and coordination with legal advisors to ensure compliance and risk mitigation across jurisdictions.
