Job Description:
The OpportunityWith the rapid successful growth of the
University of Central Florida's (UCF) Department of Medicine,
Dermatology will now become its own Division to further our
academic missions of education, research and high quality
state-of-the-art clinical care. We seek an accomplished
dermatologist with a strong vision for dermatology excellence to
serve as the founding Division Chief with major leadership roles in
the College of Medicine (COM) and the UCF Faculty Practice. The
successful candidate will be at, or eligible for hire at, the
associate professor or professor rank in the clinical or tenure
tracks. The Chief will be charged with the goals to:
- Grow the dermatology clinical service lines by the recruitment
of multiple general dermatology and Mohs micrographic surgery
faculty for our UCF Health Faculty Practice. The clinics are
state-of-the-art facilities that include advanced Mohs technical
and laboratory resources. The goal is to collaborate with faculty
in other COM specialties to establish clinical programs of
excellence that have impact for, and well-beyond, our local
communities. The Chief will also work with clinic leadership to
optimize the day-to-day operational performance of the Division's
faculty in delivering superior medical care with the highest
quality, safety, ethical standards and financial
practices.
- Expand clinical and translational research with a focus on
hypothesis-driven investigator-initiated externally funded studies,
in addition to sponsored trials. This will be facilitated by a
robust human research team which has offices in each of our primary
clinic sites and extensive logistic administrative support. A goal
is to further research pursuits aligned with our other COM
disciplines, specifically with a focus on oncology and immunology
research; the latter will be facilitated by clinical and laboratory
resources at our UCF Cancer Center. Another aim is collaborative
research and technology development with our faculty colleagues in
the College of Optics and Photonics (e.g., for high-resolution
imaging, laser therapeutics) and the College of Engineering and
Computer Science.
- Start a Dermatology Residency Program, which will be
facilitated by planning that has already been underway including
multiple training sites (e.g., the local VA Medical Center, private
practitioners), dermatopathology and pediatrics.
- Enrich our current medical school dermatology curriculum with
new faculty for didactics and clinical rotations. The successful
candidate will also arrange for the Division to participate in the
current advising program for students seeking dermatology
residencies.
- Work with the Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship
Program Directors to incorporate dermatology rotations into the
clinic schedule.
- Establish co-specialty clinics such as dermatology-rheumatology
for the purposes of patient care, learner education, and clinical
or translational research.
- Provide mentorship and other career guidance for COM's trainees
and faculty.
- Provide leadership, personal and Divisional service to the
Department, College and University by such activities as committee
participation and a commitment to supporting our community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- All candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. degree from an
accredited university and be board certified in
dermatology.
- Three years of postgraduate clinical practice in an academic
institution.
- Previous experience building, leading or expanding a program,
division, institute, other clinical service group or equivalent
responsibility within an academic or academically affiliated
organization.
- Experience participating as faculty in a Dermatology Residency
Program and/or Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship
Program.
- Experience in clinical practice administration, management, or
related academic leadership with demonstrable strong organization
and process management skills.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- The candidate's scholarly background and experience must be
commensurate with the faculty rank for which the application is
submitted.
- To be eligible to be hired as a tenured associate professor or
professor of medicine upon hire, the selected candidate must have a
demonstrated record teaching, research, and service commensurate
with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate
professor or professor of medicine.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as Program Director for a Dermatology Residency
Program.
- Experience as Program Director for a Mohs Microsurgery
Fellowship Program.
- Experience in dermatology didactic or clinical instruction at
the medical school level.
- Experience at the leadership level for the medical school
dermatology curriculum.
- Leadership experience as a director for a busy general
dermatology practice.
- Consistent track record of research and peer-reviewed
publications in dermatology.
- Demonstrable experience or specific interest in collaborations
for the development of dermatology technology and research in the
fields of optics and photonics for both diagnostics and
therapeutics, such as: high-resolution in vivo skin microscopy,
Mohs tissue imaging and analytics, photoacoustic imaging,
photobiomodulation, photodynamic therapy, and laser treatments.
